Cheerleading IS a Sport
Despite what the many critics believe, mainly footb tout ensemble players and other athletes, cheerleading is a sport that requires hard work and dedication. Cheerleaders, and like participants in every other sport, attgoal camps, manage multiple times, risk injury, and face competition. It is time for cheerleaders to pee the appreciate and recognition they deserve, instead of the stereotyping and ridicule they receive. During those last weeks of summer when all the sports teams are off at camp, unity might pretend that cheerleaders are just working on their tan. However, this could not be further from the truth. Both football players and cheerleaders suffer through long time of grueling practices during the off season, therefore both should receive praise. I know from my own experience that this is true. Just recently, while everyone was having sportsman on spring break, the team and I spent 20 hard minute of arcs in the gym, plus double sessions at the end of the week.
One comment that cheerleaders hear often is, Cheerleading isnt a sport, you cant get hurt. However, cheerleading is just as dangerous as football, if not more. With cheerleaders doing stunts, implementation complicated jumps, tumbling, and throwing people in the air, injury is expected.
This might be a bold statement, but if cheerleading were so easy it would be called football, in my opinion. Because what happens when a football player drops a visualize? Nothing, nobody gets hurt. There might be some dexterity they need to catch a ball but I cant imagine it would be much. But in cheerleading, it takes a ton of skill, power and trust.
Besides cheerleading being closely dangerous to prove my point one might infer; does the athlete need to risk injury? Being held twenty feet or more in the air is just as dangerous as having a ninety mile per hour baseball hit you.
