The environment itself was moderate and wet, allowing for great farming land on two vast plains to feed the population of the Assyrians. Without these vast fertile farm lands, the civilization might have not been able to grow into the size of it it did. However, more south near the desert lands, there was slight water and therefore irrigation systems were required to help with crop production. Also, the two natural barriers to the north and south limited trade with some other regions. Trade not only brought in materials needed by people, but also allowed ideas to spread along with technologies and other important advancements. The lack of free flowing trade hindered these things for the Assyrians.
