Whether or not the scientific rule can be applied to socio tenacious research is a question that has created much debate among sociologist. Positivism takes a perspective in support of the scientific method. Science usually refers to the instinctive sciences, such as biology, chemistry, physics, etc. The scientific method is employ to explain the natural world in a logical and specific manner. For positively charged, scientific laws are used to explain society. For example, the positivist would use such scientific laws to explain the rates of crime and suicide. Durkheim, a positivist, says, … the sociologist must put himself in the same kingdom of mind as the chemist…when he penetrates the mixer world, he must be aware that he is penetrating the apart(p)…(Gilbert 119). This shows the thoughts of positivist and their point of view as to why development the scientific method is important. They should be detached observers, suspicious of leafy vegetable sense and able to reject with evidence. Evidence and hypothesis is the unwrap to advantageousness. They believe that scientific knowledge is the only valid comprise of knowledge; science makes anything open for debate (Gilbert 117). This is why the positivism should be used.
Although the scientific method can be assessed in sociological research, the checkivistic approach in sociology contradicts their beliefs. Interpretivism does not completely forswear scientific thought, but it does not encourage it. They think that the social world is very different from the natural world, thus they cannot be studies the same way. The interpretivism approach derived from the works of Max Weber. They believe that quite a little attach meaning to what they do and it is up the sociologist to attempt to interpret the meaning. In request to interpret meaning it is not undeniable to use the scientific method. The interpertivism perspective contradicts why positivism should be used (Gilbert 116).
